Since 2016, The Africa Road Builders – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy rewards the best road and transport initiatives in Africa. The most prestigious prize is the Grand Prix Bâtisseur – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy, which rewards the Head of State, whose country enjoys exemplary success in terms of roads and transport.

The High Patronage of Presidents Paul KAGAME and Macky SALL
President Paul KAGAME (Rwanda) and Macky SALL (Senegal) won the Babacar NDIAYE Trophy Super Award in 2017 for their personal leadership in initiating new projects and continuing the efforts already undertaken. The Selection Committee chose the President of Rwanda, especially “for the order and cleanliness that characterize the roads of the capital, Kigali”, already classified by the United Nations as “the cleanest city in Africa”. As for the President of Senegal, he has been appointed, particularly “for major projects like the TER (Regional Express Train)”. In response to these distinctions, President Macky Sall wrote: « I am delighted that your organization, The Africa Road Builders – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy, stimulates this strategic vision of the development of our continent ».

The inspirer: President Babacar NDIAYE (1936-2017)
President of the BAD from 1985 to 1995, President Babacar Ndiaye is the Inspirer of The Africa Road Builders – Babacar Ndiaye Trophy. His constant commitment to infrastructure and pan-Africanism led the initiators to immortalize his name. President Babacar Ndiaye personally presided over the 2016 and 2017 editions of the trophy that bears his name. At the launch of the 2nd edition in Dakar (Senegal), President Babacar Ndiaye said: « Believe in Africa, share your faith in Africa. Transforming Africa … I believe it. Because those who follow us no longer have complex. They are hooked on what is best ».
